  1. Siri mostly recognises what is said, but every time each word has to be said clearly and slowly, for a command mumbled or spoken too quickly will not be picked up and a completely illegible response is produced. Sometimes tasks could be carried out much faster doing them manually rather than providing countless attempts in order for Siri to recognise and interpret what you are saying. However, it is also fair to say that the times when Siri fully understands commands, most of the time they are carried out efficiently and precisely.

  2. The voice recognition system is a great way to have a little bit of fun, especially with siri. Although, voice recognition is not a great system when in a hurry or in general. Siri, for example, constantly makes mistakes and a majority of the time cannot understand what has been said. The easiest way to make sure siri understands what it said is by speaking in siri's tone and pace of voice. To ensure that siri understands everything that is understood you have to speak extremely clearly, accentuating almost every syllable to make sure the phrase is heard correctly. Also, voice recognition systems require internet which means, for people who don't have internet or data all the time, siri has absolutely no use. However, voice recognition allows you to automatically search something on the internet without having to worry about typing it out and having to backspace what was written because of autocorrect. Overall the voice recognition system isn't really that effective, unless you're feeling lazy or want to irritate siri with pointless questions.

  3. Whenever I have used Siri on iOS, I have found that either Siri completely misunderstands my request or I have had commands that are for Siri to quickly perform but instead I am lead to a search engine with that command in the search bar. Siri cannot pick up words that are muffled or when someone makes a mistake like in colloquial language and we say "I mean" or "or should I say". Siri will add the "I mean" to the command making it unable to perform the function due to the inability to process that when someone makes a mistake, Siri is not supposed to keep that mistake within the command. Another issue with voice recognition systems especially Siri is when a command is meant to be carried out by that system but instead leaves you in a search engine with your command (sometimes not even the same command if you mumbled) in the search bar. An example of how frustrating this can be is like telling Siri to "Go to Calculator" instead of "Open calculator" and you are left in safari with pointless links to websites that relate to "Go to calculator". In addition, Siri may pick up background noise which may make the command longer than normal and complete gibberish at the end because Siri is picking up conversations in the background. Thus, voice recognition systems are a great concept that can potentially change the world however there are many bugs that need to be fixed before that happens.

  6. In my experience Siri has been quite unreliable. She would be far more useful if she understood what we said and did the tasks that we asked. It can get very stressful some times having to keep repeating our request. For example, when i ask her to call some one she sometimes calls the wrong person or does something completely wrong like search something on the internet. In conclusion i think voice recognition is a great idea but could do with a lot of improvement.

  7. My personal experience with Apple's Siri is that it is rare that it picks up exactly what you want to say unless you speak loud, articulately and at a slightly slower pace than usual. Siri television advertisements are blatant lies as Siri would never be able to pick up my voice when I request a song to play while jogging since it tends to pick up back ground sounds instead. Even when speaking into the microphone when the environment is quiet, if I request an app to open, it interprets the message as a request to call a friend on my contact list. However these statements do not go to say that Siri does not work at all because it will still carry out commands when they are spoken in a way that it can understand. To conclude, although people like to claim that Siri is a perfect invention, numerous accounts including mine prove that Siri has a long road of development still needed to become a great voice recognition system.

  8. My personal experience with voice recognition has had its pros and its cons. An example of voice recognition is apple’s Siri. Siri is defined as “a built-in "intelligent assistant" that enables users of Apple iPhone 4S to speak natural language voice commands in order to operate the mobile device and its apps”. I have a various experience with Siri and there are many great features that help me in some of my basic everyday day life needs. These features include calling and emailing, setting reminders, note-taking and opening apps. Siri is also really good to use as it is fun and it is like my personal assistant. On the other hand, Siri can also be very useless as it can be annoying because it doesn't pick up exactly what you are requesting. Sometimes when we ask Siri a question, the voice recognition completely changes the question that you are asking even when you are speaking in a normal voice tone. Siri also requires Wifi or 3G so it you can only use it when you are connected. Lastly, it is quicker to physically find a contact and ring them instead of asking Siri to do it for you. Overall Siri can be quite annoying but can also be really fun and helpful.
